Starting March 12, 2025 hackers used the Spalding-Labs.com ecommerce platform to try and charge stolen credit cards.
While our payment processor’s fraud detection system caught many of the attempted charges, some were successful. The charges, most of which were small transactions between $10-$20, would have appeared as coming from “Spalding Labs” on bank and credit card statements.
Once we discovered the issue we engaged with our ecommerce platform provider and our payment processor to block the exploit and begin forensic analysis. All money charged has been refunded. At no point was Equine Network or Spalding-labs.com personal or payment information leaked or system breached. Card holder information associated with any successful charges is not shared with us which makes reaching out to the victims of this fraud – the card holders – impossible. This is why we’ve created this webpage to explain what happened.
We understand this is a disconcerting event and we are disappointed that both our ecommerce platform and payment processors’s fraud detection systems did not block these atypical transactions (unusual volume of transactions and unusual origin IP’s in Europe where we do not do business). We continue to work with our ecommerce platform provider and payment processor’s security teams to identify the root cause and prevent any further exploits.
Sincerely,
Spalding Labs
